Spencer said he wanted a headshot that was a little dark and serious, so I knew we had to make a simple headshot using the Profile Lighting technique. This always look so cool, and it’s useful for so many professions.

A candid, brighter headshot is a must-have for most people. It’s nice to have that option for something a little lighter.

Fun Headshots for All the Buzz Fab Fashion | A Local New Hampshire Business

Jamie’s business just turned five. FIVE! That’s a huge deal when you’re a business owner. And so to celebrate, Jamie wanted to create some fresh and fun marketing images in her store. All the Buzz Fab Fashion is located on Portland Avenue in downtown Dover, New Hampshire. They’ve got a serious pulse on all the cool fashion trends and have a buzz-worthy (see what I did there?) Facebook Group that hooks up customers with all the latest and greatest fashions and deals. Definitely look for it on Facebook!

Here are some of the professional headshots I got to make for Jamie. Remember, headshots don’t have to be boring old corporate stuff photographed on a tie dye backdrop. Ugh. Headshots should be YOU, they should be authentic, and they should be useful to your story and your marketing.

I’ve had the pleasure of making headshots for Esteban numerous times throughout the years. Esteban recently changed jobs, which prompted him to come for new headshots this month. He brought a great range of wardrobe options, including a pocket square with his company’s colors. Nice touch!

Esteban told me he wanted headshots that would that stand out and be memorable. The NEW metal wall was perfect for this, and we made a cool profile portrait as well (see behind the scenes image below).

Behind the Scenes | I love to see people’s reactions when they make a STAND OUT headshot in what seems like an ordinary setting. The image on the left was created with just two lights — a main light to the left and a hair light (overhead), with a silver reflector to create a little detail in the shadow side of his body.

When Esteban told me he wanted something that STANDS OUT I knew EXACTLY what we needed to do. We loved how this turned out.

Headshots for Aspiring Model's Portfolio, Part I

Having professional headshots are probably never more important than when you’re just starting out in modeling and acting. And with that, I think it’s critical to have a variety or a RANGE in your portfolio. When you meet with agencies or submit headshots, you want to be able to show that you are versatile in demonstrating different moods, looks, styles, etc.

Here’s a few headshots from a recent model portfolio with Kenna. We photographed both in the studio and outside. We used some every day locations to make some pretty cool images. One of our favorites, though, was her headshot with the traffic cones! It really stands out.

It was RIDICULOUSLY cold outside but she killed it! Probably helped to have that big fuzzy blanket to wrap up inbetween shots. :)

Professional Headshots for Graduate Student at University of New Hampshire

When you’re in graduate school and you’re speaking at conferences and getting published, it’s a great idea to have professional headshots on deck! Sonja is a research assistant at the University of New Hampshire in Durham.

Sonja came in for headshots in the middle of October, so we were still able to get outside the studio for a few of her headshots. In fact, we can get outside pretty much anytime of year. As you’ll see below, the right know-how can convert ordinary scenery into a great backdrop!

“The entire process was smooth and easy. Chris was fantastic to work with from beginning to end. He answered all my questions on the phone beforehand, we were able to schedule an appointment within a week, and the session was super fun and easy. We even went outside for some improv work, and the outdoors headshots came out great! He was very helpful in helping me narrow down my favorites, and I received the final retouched photos after three days. The photos came out great, I’d definitely go back if and when I need to update my photos!”

This is Shelly. Shelly is EXACTLY the kind of warm, supportive person whom you want by your side on the happiest and darkest of days, whether’s that’s your wedding day or navigating goodbyes to a loved one.

Here’s a few of the headshots we made together to help communicate her services as both a professional in a hospital settings as well as a chaplain available for public speaking, church sermons, and officiating wedding ceremonies.

The clean white background is desirable in almost any corporate setting. The trick the white background is to properly expose it such that it doesn’t throw glare back into your lens. (I see this mistake made a lot where photographers just blast the background and throws it everything off, OR the background is “almost” pure white and it looks dingy against a white page or in a web browser)

Sometimes when you work in a large hospital or corporate setting, you need a headshot that is clean and simple. This is exactly what we made here. The warm creme tone goes perfectly with the blues in her shirt.

Did you know that deep down in our subconscious, we are wired to immediately “trust” someone when we can see their hands? It goes back to the ol’ caveman days when anyone could be carrying a weapon. Empty hands = friend, trust, safety. We joked about this, but Shelly knew this too!

Professional Headshots on Location in Dover, New Hampshire

I met Rob for his new headshots at his home in Dover. I first met Rob (and his now-wife Lisa!) last spring when we met for their wedding photography. Lisa had the brilliant idea to shoot their engagement session at Petey’s in Rye New Hampshire, a favorite place of theirs. We made a killer image for their wall that to this day is also one of my personal favorites.

I love shooting headshots on location. Just like the wedding day, it’s always a riddle to solve: where is the best light, how can I shape it, and what can we do for the background. From conference rooms to hotel suites, there’s always a solution.

Rob’s living room had a long bank of windows creating nice soft light. With a few reflectors, we had a perfect headshot setup. We cycled through a few outfits, made a bunch of headshots, and Rob made his selections. Here’s a few he chose. Great job, brother!

That's how I met Jesse when he called. I knew I was the right photographer for him; the LAST thing you want is a boring headshot that will just blend into the sea of boring old headshots.

Jesse just acquired his real estate license and is a realtor with Keller Williams in the Dover, New Hampshire area. He called up the studio last week, got him in this week, and now he's off and running with his marketing!

Here are a few of the headshots Jesse and I made. We made a nice variety with outdoor and indoor settings with different outfits so he can use them year round!
